Last night saw an excellent turn out to watch the well known and respected Wendy Gibson who came over from her home in Nottingham accompanied by her husband Ray and a mountain of fly tying material! As ever, she was able to demonstrate her skills impressively and pass on those little tips which make all the difference.
Two main tips that she did pass on were simply that:
1. Fly tying is all about mastering the basic techniques as any fly is simply a collection of various techniques to employ and
2. Allow plenty of room at the head end of the fly for finishing off. When winding silk on leave several millimetres clear at the eye and then wind on down the shank.
Please note that Wendy and her husband Ray are organising a new Fly Fishing Show at Burton on Trent Town Hall on Sunday 9th October 2011. A whole host of international fly tyers will be there plus some great Trade Stands and the entry fee is only £2.50! Make a note in your diary and let’s see if we can arrange transport between us for those who are interested to save on fuel costs – plenty of time for that.
A good night with some excellent raffle prizes including a kind donation from Wendy herself.
