Sunday June 2nd saw a troupe of Worcester Fly Dressers take to Blithfield Reservoir, Staffordshire’s Premier Fly Fishing venue close to the village of Abbotts Bromley. By all accounts it turned out to be a game of strategy with the ‘game’ being very fussy for their fayre.
Insider information prevailed with regulars Pete & Ken advising of how useful Shipman’s buzzers have proved to be in the past. Today was to be no exception as Tony Marchant & Neville Hill armed with freshly prepared flies (or at least the night before) hit upon some willing suitors and managed to tempt a rise to their dry offering. Both orange and red varieties proved popular, with the red with a splash of grey CDC protruding from both ends earned Neville Hill the top rod for the day.
Overall a really enjoyable day was had by all despite the fact that some of the fish were playing a complicated game of cat and mouse, and when hooked they fought like demons, charging off and with such force that a wrong move would see you broken.
Many thanks to both Pete & Ken for organising the event and well done to Neville for attaining top rod for the day !!
