Charles Jardine visits the branch

We were fortunate to have a visit by our currrent FDG Non-executive Chairman last week. Charles entertained us in his usual inimitable fashion with a fascinating slide show plus some fly tying. We did utilise his visit for other purposes as well mainly to present one or two trophies/certificates to the members.

Our branch chairman  Pete was in fine form dashing around making sure everything was in place although I’m not sure from the photo below if he was auditioning for the ‘X’ factor or Strictly come dancing!

One of our members, Paul Aston, has also recently achieved his Silver Accreditation standard and we took the opportunity to have Charles present the well earned certificate to Paul. The photo below shows a very delighted and surprised Paul taking his certificate. Paul has progressed rapidly with his tying and gained Silver recognition very quickly.

The highlight of the night was when the committee made a surprise award to one of our long standing members Roy McAdam. Peter Webb outlined how Roy was a founder member of  the branch some 15 years or more ago and since that time has performed almost every role imaginable – Chairman, Secretary, Committee member, shopkeeper and of late founder and judge of our Annual Photographic competition. In recognition of Roy’s massive contribution to the branch the committee decided to recognise that in the form of a Shield created in Roy’s name for the winner of our photographic competition. Roy was presented with a shield of his own to keep to commemorate this inaugural trophy and also shown the actual winners shield. These were again presented to Roy by Charles – see below.

Charles did manage to squeeze in some Fly tying despite all the presenting duties and we see him below doing his own ‘palmered nymph’.

So, all in all a momentous night which I believe we all enjoyed. So all you photographers had better get out there and get some entries in for the comp.

Well done to the committee for putting everything in place for a good evening – despite the glitch with the camera at the start!
