Yesterday we made a visit en masse to Ellerdine Lakes near Telford with 17 members making the trip. Before starting fishing many enjoyed a hearty breakfast provided by the welcoming staff and some last minute items were bought from the well stocked tackle shop. Here you see some of the members tackling up in what proved to be a brief dry spell!
Armed with good hints and tips we spread around the 4 lakes which proved to be very busy following our invasion. At the outset the weather was quite reasonable but as lunch time approached the cloud thickened and the rain followed. It became quite heavy and persistent so many of the anglers retreated to the comfortable lodge for bacon sandwiches and tea.
By then new member Paul Flanner had managed to land a real monster rainbow of 13 lbs 4ozs which tested his tackle to the limits. See Paul and his catch below. Congratulations to him and he may well get into the Troutmasters fish offs with this one. I was also on hand to witness and land another double figure fish for Owen Reynolds. This was a personal best for him and fought like a demon. He is also shown below.
Following a brief drying out, hot drinks and bacon sandwiches we ventured forth again and by around 3pm the rain eased leaving a sunny but windy and cool afternoon. I was also lucky enough to land a whopper after lunch ably assisted by Roy McAdam. Ken Giles had also landed his first ever Tiger trout of around 4 lbs and was looking suitably proud of his achievements at lunch time!
From feedback received it appears everyone enjoyed the day despite the conditions and thanks must go to Edward, Paul and the lady cook who helped to make the day so enjoyable for us all. Finally thanks to the members who made the trip a fun and sociable day. A few stayed for a final cup of tea before heading home.
